Strategic Planning

Stoke Consulting - Business Assessment

We were engaged to facilitate the transition to a new sustainable business model for an Australian-based, privately-owned importer and distributor for large scale electrical infrastructure. For this we needed a cohesive and aligned business strategy, a plan to address high priority actions and a pragmatic sales and marketing strategy.

Problems

The business was heavily reliant on the Owner, who was hands-on in all aspects of the business operations. Sales volumes exceeded capacity to deliver, so the business was unable to flex up to meet the demand, leading to missed growth opportunities and negative customer feedback. With little down time and strategic planning, some strategically desirable projects were dismissed and natural growth opportunities missed. As an additional challenge, the Owner had committed to a long-term overseas family break and desired to return to a thriving business.

Solution

Developed a comprehensive business strategyDefined a new organisational structure, including roles, responsibilities and delegated authoritiesA new General Manager position defined and recruitedIdentified , mitigated and monitored risksImplemented an executive coaching programme with the OwnerDrafted contracts and important business documentsDeveloped a new website and business advertising, including case studies

Outcomes

Comprehensive business and marketing plans were developed, approved and implemented. This led to a significant increase in sales, profit and cash. The Owner became clear as to his and others’ roles and responsibilities, allowing him to step out of the day-to-day and trust in his capable team to deliver the company’s objectives. Additionally, Stoke was able to introduce the Owner to an expanded market network.
